Trendstream is making research based on online surveys to build analysis on adoption. Contact them for more details while here are the headlines:

  • Social networking leading the growth
  • Over 50% of users in every country in reasearch have participated in social media except Japan
  • Key social motivation include staying up to date and getting information (50% of reasons)
  • Video viewing is biggest activity in social sessions
  • Greatest adoption growth for activities comes from micro-blogging followed by networking
  • Consumers are open to interact with brands, especially for functional reasons (discounts, support etc.)
  • Surprisingly, more shift from conversations to content where consumers become distribution network and celebrities create it
  • Local adoption difference is huge between different markets
  • Asia dominates the blogging adoption led by China. Scale is everywhere though: China bloggers equal rest of the world together!
  • Product reviews count still very high in online sessions
  • Not surprising, adoption curve starts from younger people and reduces towards older age groups
  • Vimeo video site rules all video providers in  advertising marketing and media category…must be the HD support?
  • PC is loosing quickly ground as favourite device to access internet
  • Mobile access is used evenly between home, work, travelling, killing time
  • Young audience expects brands to entertain while older groups want mostly info
